Mapping My Footprint | Visualizing Where I've Been
This map is a visual representation of my global journeys, built using data exported from my Google Timeline. Each point on the map marks a location I’ve traveled to during the last ~10 years.
While this map reflects my personal travel footprint, you'll notice some quirks:
Certain points may appear where I was simply passing through—such as mid-flight locations.
Some regions show more detailed stops than others, depending on how much time I spent there or how frequently I visited.
Roads are more filled in depending on whether Google Maps was in use or not.
There's even the dot of the moment I connected to a cell tower on the Saudi side of the border with Jordan. When I got the text message from my carrier, I was surprised to learn it thought I was in Saudi Arabia! (We made sure to hike back down the same side of the mountain we ascended.)
This map is interactive so please poke around.
Travelling has been an important exercise in sanity, discovery, and perspective. If anywhere on the map looks interesting to you, feel free to reach out. I am happy to discuss my experience.
